My Journey
I'm Emma! I'm of British descent but I grew up in the small coastal town of Falmouth, Massachusetts USA. I moved to Switzerland in 2010 right as I began high school. After high school, I knew I wanted to study, but had difficulty finding a suitable course. I eventually chose to study for a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Biological Sciences in the UK.
One day I began delving into the world of health and fitness. Hearing about the benefits that yoga can have, especially upon one’s mental health, I thought that it would be worth giving it a shot. While it initially may have been tough, after just the first session, I began to immediately notice the benefits. I left the session feeling refreshed, calmed, and present in the moment. From then on, I started adding the physical practice of the yoga asanas to my daily routine. After having completed my degree in Biological Science, I returned to Switzerland in order to pursue a career as a yoga instructor. Additionally, I had a newfound purpose for my biology degree and I applied the knowledge I had gained by researching the health benefits of yoga and further explored the advantages that the practice can have.
For the last 3 years of my life I have dedicated myself to studying yoga. I studied the historical and philosophical aspects of Yoga but found my focus drawn mainly to the physical side - the asanas. Asanas relieve stress, are an excellent fitness technique building strength and flexibility. They improve the quality of life, and even, it is thought, prolong life.
From my experience with anxiety, walking through the door can be the hardest part. Feel free to check out a video (Link - here) from my YouTube; a class designed for those who want to try yoga for the first time, want to experience my teaching style, or just generally help calm their initial nerves about trying yoga.
“With practice, the craft will come almost of itself, in spite of you and all the more easily if you think of something besides technique.”
- Paul Gauguin, French Artist
